the error of sequence
A rule can outlive its reason. It stays in place and is dutifully applied, yet nobody quite knows why it exists any more, and nobody has the room left to change it. Such a rule is called an orphaned design here: its maker has left, and the design has stayed behind.
Dissociation is about two contradictory truths held at once. Grammar is about what happens to a single rule over time.
